  The river Koppentraun stays alive!
In the year 2005 some private Investors wanted to build a power station at the river Koppentraun in the Styrian Salzkammergut, they wanted to drain the river with a 5.3 km long and 1.8 m fat pipeline.

For 0.1% of Styrias total electrical energy this land would have lost one of the last natural rivers in the styrian alps, a world famous flyfishing river, an international known paddle destination, an awesome wilderness hiking trail and many jobs in tourism.

The group "Initiative Koppentraun" started protest actions against this stupid plan!

More than 19.000 signatures and more than 6.000 online petitions have been collected by friends of the river Koppentraun in the Salzkammergut since Juli 2005, so more than 25.000 people said "NO" to this stupid power plant project!

Ing. Manfred Wegscheider (Styrian government) said in the end of 2006, there will be no Power Plant and the Koppentraun will be protected by law.

On May 14th, 2007 the styrian government
made the resolution to "stop the power plant project"!

On June 25th, 2007 the styrian government declared the river Koppentraun as "protected nature area"!!!

This declaration means also the
"definite No for all future power plant projects"! 		Hike, demo and festival in the Koppentraun 500 Koppentraun activists joined the hike, demo and festival in the Koppentraun on 2. July!
